A high-volume low-speed (HVLS) fan is a type of mechanical fan greater than 7 feet (2.1 m) in diameter. HVLS fans are generally ceiling fans although some are pole mounted. HVLS fans move slowly and distribute large amounts of air at low rotational speed– hence the name "high volume, low speed."

These fans are commonly installed ini spaces like warehouses, barns, hangars and distribution centers can prevent heat stress, increase worker comfort and the productivity of both workers and livestock. HVLS fans are also used in commercial spaces, where air conditioning is more common, but increased air movement from ceiling fans can cost-effectively augment occupant comfort or prevent stratification. Typical commercial applications include shopping malls, churches, office buildings, airport terminal buildings, fitness centers and schools.

How does an HVLS fan work

High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans move large quantities of air down towards the floor at a low speed. When the air column hits the floor, it changes direction and becomes a ‘floor jet,’ moving the air outward in a 360-degree direction, which then migrates to every nook and corner of the workspace.

The wind created by the fan mimics a natural breeze-like feeling on the skin, which is far more comfortable than wind produced by an ordinary fan or Air Conditioning.

The Benefits of HVLS fans

1. Improving Comfort and environment

2. Improving effectiveness of heating & cooling

3. Cost savings at every turn

4. Reduce condensation on floors (a situation commonly referred to as Sweating Slab Syndrome in the construction industry).

5. Effectively avoid bacterial and mold growth problems caused by humid air

nce between comfortable employees and affordable heating and cooling, pairing HVLS fans with an HVAC system is a win-win.
